PhD Admission & Application

PHD PROGRAM

Student admission to the Computer Engineering Master's Program is made according to the Erciyes University Graduate Education and Training Regulations dated February 16, 2017, Application to Graduate Programs, Student Admission and Registration Principles.

In order to apply for a Phd;

a) They must have a bachelor's degree or a master's degree with thesis, a diploma of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary faculties with at least ten semesters excluding preparatory classes, or a specialization in a laboratory branch according to the principles regulated by the Ministry of Health.

b) Those who have a master's degree or a bachelor's degree of at least 10 semesters excluding preparatory classes must have at least 55 ALES score.

c) Those who will apply with a bachelor's degree of less than ten semesters, excluding preparatory classes, must have a minimum ALES score of 80 and an undergraduate graduation grade point average of at least 80 out of 100 or 3 out of 4.

ç) In order to apply to doctoral programs in medicine and dentistry, candidates must have at least 50 (TUS and DUS Basic Score = Clinical Sciences Score×0.3+ Basic Sciences Score×0.7) or at least 55 numerical ALES score from the TUS basic medicine score of the year applied for medical school graduates and DUS basic score of the year applied for dental school graduates.

d) ALES is not required for doctorate, proficiency in art, specialization in medicine, specialization in dentistry, specialization in dentistry, specialization in veterinary medicine, specialization in pharmacy graduates to apply to doctoral programs and for the evaluation procedures of these candidates;

1) Regardless of the type of score or field of specialization at the entrance to the graduate program, a score of not less than 55 and not more than 75 is determined by the Senate and announced in the requirements of the relevant program.

2) These candidates can apply in a different field from the type of score or doctorate/proficiency in art/specialization field they previously received.

3) The announced score is included in the calculations as ALES score regardless of the score type.

e) (Amended: RG-17/07/2022-31895) Applicants to PhD / Proficiency in Art programs must obtain 55 points or an equivalent score from the Foreign Language Proficiency Level Assessment Exam (YDS) or central foreign language exams accepted by the Council of Higher Education and international foreign language exams accepted as equivalent by ÖSYM. The Senate is authorized to raise these scores according to the characteristics of the programs to be entered.

Applications are evaluated by the institute board of directors according to the following principles and successful candidates are determined by taking into account the announced quotas:

a) In applications, all grades of the candidate to be evaluated are converted into an evaluation over 100. In the graduation grade point average diplomas, the conversion table of the Higher Education Council to the 100-grade system is taken as basis in the calculation of the conversion from the different system to the 100-grade system for those who are in different systems (4, 3 and similar) and those who are only in different systems (4, 3 and similar).

ç) In the evaluation of student admission to doctoral programs; If an interview and / or written scientific evaluation exam is not conducted, 50% of the ALES score, 30% of the master's grade point average and 20% of the foreign language score are taken and the success score is calculated. Candidates above 60 points are ranked from the highest score and placed in the relevant programs according to the quotas announced. In the departments w here an interview exam and/or a written scientific evaluation exam is held, 50% of the ALES score, 30% of the master's degree grade point average, and 20% of the foreign language score are taken into consideration. According to the results of the ranking, the number / ratio of candidates to be called for the interview and / or scientific evaluation written exam is specified in the announcement text. The success of the candidates taken to the interview and/or written scientific evaluation exam is determined by taking 50% of the ALES score, 15% of the master's degree grade point average, 15% of the foreign language score and 20% of the interview and/or written scientific evaluation exam. Candidates are placed in the relevant programs by ranking from the highest score. The minimum score required for students to be placed in the announced quotas is 60. For those who will apply for a doctorate with a bachelor's degree of less than ten semesters excluding preparatory classes, the undergraduate grade point average is used instead of the master's degree grade point average in the calculation of the success score. In case of score equality, the candidate with the higher ALES score is preferred. The candidate who does not take the interview exam is considered unsuccessful.

Ölçme ve değerlendirme ile ilgili hususlar 16 Şubat 2017 tarihli Erciyes Üniversitesi Lisansüstü Eğitim-Öğretim Yönetmeliğinde belirtilmiştir:

  1. Exams are evaluated out of 100 points. The midterm and final exam results of a course are shown with a numerical score. The score of the exams that the student does not take is (0) zero.
  2. The calculation of the success grade is as follows:

a) The average midterm exam score is determined by dividing the sum of the scores obtained by the student in the midterm exams by the number of midterm exams. Fractional numbers to be found in this way are raised to the nearest whole number.

b) The success score is calculated by adding 60% of the semester, year-end and make-up exam score and 40% of the average midterm exam score. The midterm exam grade is not taken into account in the single course exam. The success grade of students who take the single course exam is determined only according to the single course exam grade. Fractions are preserved in the calculation of these ratios, but fractional numbers are completed to the nearest whole number in the calculation of the success score.

c) For each course taken within the framework of the graduate program, students are given a letter grade equivalent to the success score calculated above using the table below by the instructors:

PUAN KATSAYI BAŞARI NOTU
90-100 4.00 AA
 85-89  3.50 BA
 80-84  3.00 BB
 75-79  2.50 CB
 70-74  2.00 CC
 65-69  1.50 DC
 60-64  1.00 DD
 50-59  0.50 FD
 0-49  0.00 FF
ç) In order to be considered successful in a course; master's program students must have a minimum grade of CC and doctoral program students must have a minimum grade of CB. In order for the students of the scientific preparation program to be considered successful in a course, the minimum grades determined for the graduate program they are enrolled in are valid. In the calculation of the success grades of graduate program students who take courses from the undergraduate program, the letter grade determined by the evaluation method applied in the undergraduate program is taken as basis.

d) Students who are successful in seminar, thesis, specialization courses and other similar courses are graded successful (BL) and unsuccessful students are graded unsuccessful (BS).

e) Students who fail the course because they do not fulfill the attendance requirement are given a failing grade for absenteeism (DZ).

f) (M) grade is given for the courses that the student has taken and succeeded in any higher education institution before being accepted to the graduate program followed at the University, which are not taken into account in the calculation of the credits and grade point average required for graduation and for which exemption is granted.

g) The credits and grades of the courses taken from higher education institutions outside the university and accepted as transfer credits to the program are transferred exactly in accordance with the table specified in subparagraph (c) above.
